5/8/2023 0 Comments Shadows of the night book![]() ![]() So this book does have some iffy stuff but nothing I say a mature 14-year-old cannot handle. later on, she stabs someone and watches several accounts of people being killed. the first page speaks of how she killed one of her bedmates. Alessandra is not really a lady that is flinchy when it comes to violence so there are multiple scenes of it. There is very very little profanity the only cuss words are whore, hell, and damn if you can even count those. But the next day they can't keep their hands off each other and end up having sex it's not very descriptive at all so I wouldn't rate this book 16 plus. There is one kissing groping scene that takes place on a bed but kissing is it nothing more. ![]() There are multiple plot twists one big one that especially had me angry but otherwise, the book was amazingly written. she meets the king and she falls in love. Mostly speak of it and talk of having multiple bed partners etc Alessandra gives off slut vibes in the beginning because of how many bedmates she has every night. I loved this book SO MUCH that I was hooked from the very first page and could not put it down I finished it in 2 days!! This will forever be on my favorites list. One character says he's getting drunk at a boxing match "to have a better time." There are a few deaths where men are run through with swords and some injuries that are magically healed. Drinking is also on the heavy side for characters who are around 18 years old. (Of note: She also shows respect for her friends who wait for sex.) That said, there's only one actual sexual encounter in the book, and it's not described well, but there are other scenes of kissing and groping. Alessandra admits to dozens of lovers and advocates for women to do what they want with their bodies without shame. What may be a hard sell for some parents of teens is the sexual content. Yes, ambition and power are shown as right here, but to such a degree that it's meant to be more humorous than troubling. That's very true of Alessandra, the main character, who tells the reader on the very first page that she killed and buried her first lover and plans to marry and then kill the king to take his throne. Those familiar with the Harry Potter house know Slytherins are cunning and ambitious. Parents need to know that The Shadows Between Us is a fantasy romance the author describes as a "Slytherin romance" in her dedication. ![]()
